av98m SG Yeah. The worst example is getting your basic sentence structure wrong and using big words at the same time.
fudgester SG I got A1 for English. And C6 for Literature. My Lit teacher nearly strangled me alive.... until I explained to him that I was running a very high fever at the time (which I really was). Thank goodness I got A1 for Geography... I used that as my Humanities requirement instead of Lit.
the Bear SG i read the books once.. i read the plays and watched the plays on video... once... i read the poetry and fell asleep halfway... i knew my A Math, E Math, Chemistry and Physics will pull me through (although i did screw up my Chemistry and Physics) and i plain just didn't care
av98m SG My lit teacher was damn du lan with me because I obviously spent lots of my time reading lots of books. But I just refused to read some of the lit texts outside school hours. I was reading unabridged Dickens novels while refusing to touch the blardy lit texts (except for To Kill A Mockingbird)
Rhonda SG One can be good in English but it doesn't mean that they are equipped to teach the language. Using it, and knowing the technicalities of it, fall into two different genres altogether. I spent a lot of time familiarising myself with the technicalities when I had to teach tuition because I put myself wholeheartedly into it. Then later, at one stage in my working life, I had to juggle two positions because our Training Administrator had resigned and the company had no 'headcount' to fill that position so I had to apply to be certified by MOE to teach the BEST and WISE English courses to our blue-collar foreign workers. TMD... give me TWO posts to juggle, then at the end of the year, during my appraisal, can tell me that I'm not as up-to-par on my jobSSS as I ought to be! Nary a word of thanks for taking on the extra responsibilities with NO salary revisions but dare to nit-pick! Luckily I spoke up for myself then and stunned my boss, who realised the situation and then decided to put me up to the next grade!
choco B SG Them and then some! Everyone knows some incompetent idiot or other who evokes the response "How the hell did he get that cushy job??! " Ai sometimes I think it's all luck and timing.
fudgester SG My tuition student once insisted that 'alot' does exist. He even claimed that he could find the word in a dictionary and sought to prove me wrong. Unfortunately, the brat had to eventually eat his words when he couldn't find it.
stellazio SG but you know whats the stupid thing bout it? the polys have done away with the admin people, so the lecturers are boggled down with alot of planning and administrative work like open house etc during their supposed holidays. one of the lecturers was complaining to us.
